Afrobeats360 Artiste Of The Week: Bella Shmurda

The latest ‘street hop’ representative.

Like it or not, ‘Street hop’ is not only a sub genre of Afrobeats that has come to stay, but it has and still plays a significant role in the development of Afrobeats as a genre of music.
Our artiste of the week- Bella Shmurda, also known as fineboy Bella is the latest flag bearer of this sub-genre, and best believe that he’s flying this flag as high as can for all to see.
However, ‘street hop’ has had various representatives at different point in time. From the era of Daddy Showkey, who held it down for the streets of Ajegunle and later handed the baton to Marvelous Benji and his contemporaries, to the days of Terry G the ‘Akpako master’, to Olamide and Lilkesh who repped for Bariga, to Small Doctor of Agege and very recently Zlatan Ibile and Naira Marley of the marlian nation. All contributing their quota.
In all, you can tell that Bella Shmurda representing Ojo, is definitely enjoying his time as a representative of ‘street hop’ music, from the way he consistenly serves fans a new ‘lamba’ every other day.

The beauty of Bella’s music is how he’s able to come up with lyrics and melodiously sing about the pains and struggles of the ghetto youths in present day Nigeria and the choices they are forced to make each day of their lives. This is what earned him his street rep.
