Today, Afrobeats360 celebrates with an exceptional DJ with the class and the vibes. A DJ who is up and doing regardless of her rich background, in person of DJ Cuppy.
Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy was born on this day 11th November, 1992. She is the daughter of one of Nigeria’s richest business men, Femi Otedola.
Cuppy who is a young and vibrant lady lived her early years in Illupeju before moving to Ikeja where she attended Grange School, Ikeja. After some years in Nigeria, she relocated to London for her GCSES and A-Levels and graduated from Kings College London in July 2014 with a degree in Business and Economics. She later earned a masters degree in Music Business from New York University in 2015.
DJ Cuppy has always wanted to be involved in the music scene, making her dive into becoming a Disc Jockey. She was the resident DJ at the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban 2014. She then played at get Tatler and Christie’s art ball in London and at the Financial Times Luxury summit in Mexico City.
Cuppy enlarged her coast in the industry as she released “House of Cuppy” as her fifth compilation mix in London and Lagos before launching it in New York City on September 2nd, 2014.
Cuppy has worked with big artist in the industry like Tekno in the song “Greenlight”, L.A.X in “Currency”, Skuki in “Wesk”, Kwesi Arthur in “Abena’, Zlatan in “Gelato”, Sarkodie in “Vibes”, Rema in “Jollof”.
She has toured different countries like Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa for her first DJ tour in the year 2015. She has also interned at Jay-Z’s ROC Nation.
In terms of ambassadorship, Cuppy was appointed by Nigeria Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation (Edem Duke)as the Tourism Ambassador for the country’s “Fascinating Nigeria” campaign. She also became a DJ ambassador for Pepsi and other ambassadorial engagements.
In an interview with Tush Magazine, Cuppy described her sound as Neo Afrobeat which is a fusion of Electro house and Afrobeats.
The DJ/singer released her album “Original Copy on August 21st, 2020, which is still making waves on all music platforms.
