For most of us born in the early and late 90s, we might not know this song and how it rocked the airways back in the 80s. Released in 1984, under the Tabansi Records‘ label, by the legendary singing sensation Veno Marioghae.
Veno who hails from Delta state Nigeria, is one woman that greatly influenced the Nigerian Music industry. Though she is no longer in the music scene, she had quite a successful music career with hits tracks like “Thank you jah”, “Iwa ti yo”, “Siobe nome” and her most famous track –
“Nigeria go survive” which is our throwback song for today.
About 35 years ago, Veno released a song of encouragement for Nigerians, as at the time when the country was 26. Now that the country marks it’s 60th independence today, this is one song we should go back listening to. The song was meant to encourage Nigerians that despite all the hardships, insecurity, political and economic crisis that the country face, we are going to push through.
Well, for a song released 35 years ago, it’s disheartening that it’s still relevant till date, due to the fact that the country still suffer the same thing it suffered 35 years ago.
The song which had the boogie and modern soul feel; a popular style of music back in the 80s, was produced by legendary music producer Roy obika.
“Nigeria go survive” was a major hit track and was also a source of hope for Nigerians back then.
Though a lot of Nigerians are of the opinion that the country is not worth celebrating. We won’t blame any one for thinking so. Nevertheless, if there is nothing to celebrate, freedom is worth celebrating. We as Nigerians should pray for a better tomorrow for our country and do all we can to ensure a better Nigeria.
As we celebrate our dear country today, We at Afrobeats360 say a Happy 60th Independence Anniversary to the Giant of Africa!!!
Cheers! To Better Tears Ahead.
