Reminisce: The Alaga Ibile Of Rap Music

Rap is one creative art used to express oneself with words in a particular theme and rhythm, alongside a given beat. Many Nigerian artists have a space for rap in their hearts and one of such artist is Reminisce.

Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru popularly known by his stage Reminisce aka Alaga Ibile is one artist who derives joy in playing with words in his local dialect which is Yoruba and also with English. As we all know, he is a Nigerian rapper, singer and he has added acting to be part of his portfolio. Trust us, he is one hell of a fire actor!

Everyone comes from somewhere in he world, for Reminisce, he comes from Ajilete, Yewa south LGA in Ogun State, the western part of Nigeria. Born on the 26th day of January in Kaduna State.

Reminisce love for music started way back in secondary school. He listened to various genres of music both local and foreign and he also tried his best to blend in school social events and activities. He developed his rapping skills by emulating rappers like Jay Z, Snoop Dogg and Nas.

Starting up his career in the music industry, he recorded his first song in a studio in the year 2006 and recorded an intense/hardcore rap album at Coded Tunes although the album was never released. He decided to focus on his studies and later bagged an HND in Purchasing and Supply at Kwara State Polytechnic.

Having paid his bills in the educational sector, in the year 2008, Reminisce returned to the music sphere, performing a rap verse on a track titled “Bachelor’s life” off 9ice’s sophomore album titled “Gongo Aso”. He began to explore his versatility more, as he knew how good he was in both rapping and singing.

His second sound was “If Only” a love song produced by Dtunez where he showed fans his singing and rapping skills. These two songs served as a stepping stone for him.

He is signed to Edge records and also the founder and Creative Director of LRR Records- a perfect example of “while you’re building others, build you too”

One of his earliest achievement was in 2014, Time magazine named him “one of the seven world rappers you should meet”, he was also named by Nigeria’s largest music site, as one of the top three hip hop artists of 2014.

Reminisce worked on many music project in terms of compiling and releasing albums and hit singles, some of them include:

Book Of Rap Stories

This was his first album released on the 31st of March 2012. He started recording the album since 2010 after linking up with the studio producer Sarz at Edge records studio. The studio allowed him to carve a niche for himself and made the album bilingual. He went on to release a track Kako Bii chicken, a commercial song which is recognized as the breakout single. After this, other songs like “If Only”, 2 Mussshh were released. A 13 track Album with the production credits to Sarz on the beat, Legendary Beatz, Joshbeatz, Jospo and Pastor child. The album did well commercially in the southern part of Nigeria.

A year after, the singer released another album titled Alaga Ibile which was officially released on 15 November 2013. The album featured acts like Wizkid, Sosick, Davido, Naeto C and Olamide. It was an instant breakthrough album, with hit singles like Daddy ft Davido, Eleniyan ft Wizkid, Fantasi, 3rd world thug. Sosick had produced 80% of tracks in the album. The album sold an estimated million copies before the end of 2014. Recently, the rapper had released new singles titled Ogaranya ft Fireboy DML and Gbedu.

Reminisce is no doubt an embodiment of talents. He was recognized as one of the major actors in the movie “King of Boys” where he played a role as Makanaki.
