Some songs really made waves in terms of good delivery, massive reception and accolades, “Dami Duro” was no doubt one of those songs.
Put together by one of Nigeria’s very own music icon, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido. It was released as the second single from his second studio album “Omo Baba Olowo” in the year 2012, and was also produced by Shizzi alongside Davido.
This hit banger was all over the airwaves as TV/ radio stations aired it.
Perhaps, this amounted to the release of the remix in May, 2012 featuring Senegalese American singer, Akon.
Still on the remix, a writer for Africa Public commended both artists for their work on the remix, saying:
“I like the new verse. It gave a new vibe to the track plus I couldn’t easily tell which voice belonged to Davido and which one belonged to Akon apart from the fact that auto tune nahes their voice sound more similar. Akon actually did well when it came to the Yoruba aspect.”
To show how popular the song became, the former Oyo state governor, Late Abiola Ajimobi chanted the song while giving a speech at the University of Ibadan. This song really opened doors for Davido in his music career as he performed it at a concert sponsored by a brewing company, held at the Kyadondo Rugby club in Kampala.
Good songs always get recognitions and accolades. For Dami Duro, it won numerous Awards including: Hottest single of the year, Whilst its video won “Most Gifted Newcomer Video of The Year.” The list goes on and on earning Davido a strong foundational to thrive.
One thing about good music is that it stays evergreen. “Dami Duro” is definitely a song one would still nod a head to. Most definitely!
Cheers To Good Music
