“Egungun be careful, na express you dey go,” 8 words, one sentence that has held the internet hostage for weeks now.
Who believed that a song released almost two decades ago could make such an epic comeback?
Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere aka Omo Rapala aka Papa Tosibe, legendary Fuji musician has warmed his way into the hearts of the younger generation of Nigerians, after twitter users started to post clips of his music videos as reactions to tweets.
Born January 28 1965, Papa Tosibe hails from Ibadan Oyo state. His type of Fuji music was considered vulgar and frowned upon, although he touched sensitive matters most people were conservative about through his singing.
His cross dressing and daring music videos, featuring vixens such as Cossy Orjiakor didn’t make him any more likeable.
On screen, Omo Rapala presented as very notorious and obscene.
However, Obesere, unlike his fellow Fuji music stars, has been happily married to his wife, Abike for many years.
Obesere is putting his reintroduction into the music scene and the acquaintance of the younger population with his music, to good use.
Recently, Zlatan posted a video of him recording what looks like a remix to “Egungun be careful” with the legend in the studio.
His discography had since been made available on streaming platforms such as boomplay and soundcloud.
This comeback may lead to the globalization of Fuji music, just like afrobeats, and we are ready for it!
