The Nigerian music industry is known for shinning the spotlight on particular artistes, this is as a result of the industry’s structure.

When we say underrated, we mean those artistes who have dope songs but hasn’t made big name in the Industry.

They’ve never emerged best artistes, and it’s hard to describe them as the hottest thing on the music scene.

1. Brymo.


Brymo is one artistes that has contributed so much to the music industry. Yet, he’s not considered as a force to reckon with.

Ordinarily, one would have expected him to be in the same league with Wizkid , Davido and other top class in the industry but he appears to be unnoticed despite being in the scene for more than a decade.

The singer and song writer specializes in a variety of genres (Fuji, R&B, Pop) and has five music albums to his credit.

The singer has also gotten so many nominations but has only won 3 official awards.

2.Sean Tizzle

As funny as it may sound,this guy won the headies award of the Next Rated Category ahead of Burna Boy, Phyno and Seyi Shay in 2013.

 He is a fusion of Burna boy, Wizkid, Davido and any other top artist in the continent. His vibes are evergreen and addictive.

However, the sensational act has stumbled in his journey as his sound has been vehemently undervalued by many.



Earlier this year, L.A.X declared himself as the most underrated artiste in the music industry. This was the guy that was looking for Caro with Wizkid back in 2012.

The once singed to WizKid’s Starboy Entertainment has witnessed struggles in trying to sell his sound. Even after recently flagging off his own label Rasaki Records, the singer is still not considered a super star.

The singer is been undervalued by fans of Nigerian music despite releasing his debut album ‘Rasaking’ featuring Davido, Maleek Berry, Duncan Mighty and Yemi Alade in 2018.



Akumefule Chukwu-Emeka, popularly known as BlaqBonez is a Nigerian rapper. He came into limelight in February 2012 after winning Terry tha Rapman’s zombie competition.

He has made the list of 5 Rappers on the hiphop radar in 2016 by Talkglitz and also Ten rappers to watch out for in Africa by opinion polls.

 2018 was a very active year for the artiste as it saw him further rise and solidify his status as a rapper with content.

His album was highlighted by Soundcity as Album of the Year alongside Burna Boy’s “YE” and M.I’s “Rendevouz” among others.  

The rapper has been doing so well in putting out quality tracks yet, people tends to undervalue him.

Till today he is yet to be considered as one of the elite rappers in the industry.

5.Johnny Drille

Johnny is special, but why most people have failed to appreciate his sound is something mysterious.

He is one of the few artistes who has kept to their path despite signing for one of Africans most celebrated indigenous record label Mavin Records. The Country and Soul music act is like a rat in the midst of Goats.

The Nigerian music scene has grown addiction to commercial afrobeat and dancehall to the extent they fail to value the rare talent Johnny Drills posses.
