Couple of days ago, ‘Memphis in May’ the organisers of this year’s ‘Beale Street Music Festival’, announced and confirmed music artists to perform at the event. Amongst names mentioned, are two of the republic of Ghana’s finest: rapper ‘Sarkodie’ and reggae and dancehall maestro ‘Stonebwoy’. Others include: ‘Lilwayne’, ‘Dababy’, ‘Potugaltheman’, ‘Lumineers’, ’21savage’ ‘Moneybagyo’ and a host of others.
Before you music lovers from other African countries, especially my Naija people start asking questions as to why their favorite artists from their respective country weren’t picked?( make una relax first) we should note, that as it is the usual custom of this event each year to honour a particular country, this year’s event is honoring the republic of Ghana. Hence the selection of only Ghanian artists. (So una see na Ghana get this year. Una blood to dae hot).
“While we feature artists from the honored country each year at The Beale Street Music Festival, this year we are especially pleased to present two of the top artists from Ghana, and performers who are highly regarded throughout all of Africa and internationally,” said James L. Holt, President and CEO of Memphis in May. “Given the excitement surrounding our salute to Ghana, we expect Sarkodie and Stonebwoy to be very well received.”
The Beale Street Music Festival is a three-day, four-stage event in Memphis, featuring 60+ top musical acts from today and beyond. #BSMF20 opens to the public at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 1 and runs through Sunday, May 3. Sarkodie is expected to perform on the second day of the event while Stonebwoy will perform on the last day. The 2020 Beale Street Music Festival is sponsored by Bud Light, Terminix and Monster Energy.
If you ask me, this is another way of showcasing Africa to the world, and it is a huge one for Sarkodie and Stonebwoy. We here at Afrobeats360 wish them all the best, as we countdown to May 1st when Beale street music festival kicksoff. Be sure that we will keep you updated on everything that goes down as regards this festival.
